A for Attitude
First published in 1998, 'A for Attitude' has now sold more than 23,000 copies and is available in Australia, NZ, Singapore, Malaysia, India and the U.K. It is used by Psychologists, Teachers, Children, Parents and Police Schools Involvement Program. During Julie’s tour of Victoria, NSW and Qld in 2002, A for Attitude was the focus of a campaign to bring awareness for this ‘little helper for life’ and to offer children in rural communities the opportunity to have an author/illustrator visit their remote town. This book contains snippets of universal age-old wisdom that we need to be reminded of from time to time. Designed for children of all ages to browse through when in need of inspiration and encouragement. To open at random and read a page or two. I was inspired to produce this book after reading the positive works of Richard Bach, Jack Canfield, Dr Wayne Dyer and Louise Hay. I remember thinking it would be good if these principles were illustrated and targeted to children at a crucial stage of their development. Why wait until middle-age to get motivated?
The aim of my work is to inspire children to understand that more than anything else, their attitudes establish who and what they may become and how happily they can live their lives. It’s not what happens to us, it’s how we allow it to affect us. – Julie Davey What people have said about ‘A for Attitude’... “ In today’s society when there are so many ways for people to escape reality (and children are taking drugs at very young ages now) it is a very positive step to introduce children to the concept of positive attitudes in such areas as anger, fear, fun, gossip and health. Who knows – maybe some adults will read the section on prejudice, dealing with problems and the importance of meditation. This book has something for us all”. –John Dalziel The Salvation Army “… refreshingly successful in tackling positive attitudes … hits you between the eyes with its simple and direct message.” The Scholastic “ A for Attitude is destined to become a classic best seller” Arnold Bonnet, Editor Education Horizons “… released at the right time: when adults are concerned that many young people cannot face their problems” Reading Time “ As a primary school teacher and kinesiologist, I have observed and believe that the greatest threat to humanity is in not loving ourselves enough and not knowing how to express our feelings appropriately. Repressed feelings lock into the body blocking off energy flow, which leads to dis-ease in the body, mind and emotions. Julie has offered us a wonderful tool kit to find ways to unlock our potential, create the full energy flow again and become our magnificent best. This is a self-discovery resource for everybody, not just for children. Have fun playing with it." Robyn Clempson, Kinesiologist and Educator Boneo Primary is one of many schools to have purchased a set of ‘A for Attitude’ books. The following is an excerpt from a letter written about ‘A for Attitude’ program and products by one of their teachers … “… they (A for Attitude books) are used as a constant resource in classroom discussions and for individual children experiencing difficulties in the yard, especially with bullying and peer group pressure. There is also a set of posters displayed in class-rooms.” – Donna Gadsby, Classroom Teacher Boneo Primary, Victoria, Australia
